About this app
The Gemini app is an AI assistant. If you opt in to the Gemini app, it will replace your Google Assistant as the primary assistant on the phone. Some Google Assistant voice features aren't available through the Gemini app yet. You can switch back to Google Assistant in settings.
The Gemini app is available only on Android phones with 2 GB of RAM or more, running Android 10 and up.
This official app is free of charge. Gemini gives you direct access to Google’s best family of AI models on your phone so you can:
- Get help with writing, brainstorming, learning, and more
- Summarise and find quick info from Gmail or Google Drive
- Use text, voice, photos, and your camera to get help in new ways
- Say “Hey Google” to ask Gemini for help with what’s on your phone screen
- Make plans with Google Maps and Google Flights
If you have access to Gemini Advanced it will be right here in the Gemini app.

AI features are good. The reason I gave it 3 starts has to do more with the interface and the technical aspects of the app itself. I used to be able to cue Gemini from swiping to the middle of the screen from the bottom right corner on my Galaxy S24 Ultra. That feature has been taken away, by Google or Samsung, I'm not sure. The other feature I would like to see is a speed setting for Gemini's voice response. I'd like Gemini's voice response to be faster than what it is.

Gemini just replaced my google assistant after recent update. Gemini fails to complete simple tasks like giving me directions. When I ask for directions somewhere it tells me that it would have to get directions to that place. It struggles sending text messages instead it thinks about it and then turns off. When google replaces your assistant it should at least work as well as the app it replaces.

Hi there. The Gemini mobile app can now send text messages through your phone’s default messaging app. For now, it cannot help you create or message group chats or send audio, images, or videos. pathetic answer! My pixel 7 used to continue playing YouTube video even after I hit the power button to turn off the display. now it does not. I do not like this at all because I mostly listen to audio + not visual and I like to put my phone in my pocket. if I put my phone in my pocket with the display on it will invariably activate from pressure points in my pocket. if I can turn the display off it effectively eliminates that problem and I can listen as I like. problem nullifies YouTube app.
