In March 2020 I bought a fluid trainer for my road bike and installed TrainerRoad on my phone. TR hooked up to heart, speed and cadence sensors, and given the fluid trainer model was able to calculate instantaneous watts. Given the metrics and app advice during the rides, I was able to become comfortable riding with higher cadence, which made a big improvement when riding outdoors. Recently, thanks to TR support experts, I found that the app's suggested workouts improve fitness even better.

This is my go-to app for cycling fitness. If you want to see measurable improvements in your riding strength, cardiovascular ability and overall fitness, this is it. Riding instructions from coach Chad, and immense catalog of workouts keep it engaging over time, but really, it's seeing the results come to fruition when you get back outdoors that really makes it worth it. I've tried Zwift extensively, but decided to stick with Trainerroad. Bonus: of the app in minimal mode and watch their weekly YouTube podcast.

I was skeptical, but I followed the master's program all winter (3.5 hours a week) along with doing some other activities. Road 3.5 hours outdoor today like a walk in the park. This app is the real deal. It's well worth $20/month to have spring riding be enjoyable. The workouts are varied, the commentary is interesting, and the app provides motivation to keep you going. It's always got me at the edge of what I can handle. Perfect.
